There are a variety of great benefits involved with affiliate marketing. You can have all the benefits of an impressive income while working from home. However, you will have to be successful to turn this into your full time job.

When you enter the world of online affiliate programs you will want to ensure your success. It will not happen for you overnight; you will have to work for it. Do not expect to get rich overnight.

Various individuals cannot make affiliate marketing work for them. To avoid failing you will learn what to do to succeed. Here are a few successful steps to follow.

Ensure the Company Provides Marketing Resources

If you want to be a success at the internet affiliate programs you’re involved in, then you will want to ensure that the company you work with provides marketing resources. The best affiliate companies to work with do provide you with top resources and tools that will help you become a success.

When you go with companies that provide you the marketing resources, it’s much easier to be successful. Often they’ll provide you with the banners and web copy you need, and all you have to do is use it.

Set Strict Daily Working Hours

It is essential to set strict hours to work each day if you want to be successful at affiliate marketing. This applies, no matter what kind of program you are working with. You will need to get the work done and the fact that you are working at home does not mean you can cut your hours or let other things interfere. Work is work, wherever you do it, and allocating strict working hours to your affiliate program contributes to your success.

Work with a Mentor in the Business

Working with a mentor in the business can be really helpful if you want to succeed with affiliate marketing. A good mentor can give you insider tips and share his or her own experiences. Make sure you choose a successful mentor.

Always Work on Traffic Building Techniques

You should always work on your traffic building techniques because without traffic you will not make money. Whichever internet programs you are affiliated with, you need to build up traffic to your website in order to attract customers and make sales.

With these simple steps, you can become more organized and successful in order to make more affiliate income. Make sure that you always use these helpful tips to ensure that you make the most profit you can to make working at home a success for you.

I have a friend who has recently been bitten by the “fitness bug” Its quite strange. She is not actually training for anything, yet trains hours every day. She pays $40 an hour, (which apparently is cheap) three times a week to a personal trainer. He now gets her to fill in a “food diary” so he can check what she eats everyday.

Its a little bit sad really, she originally went out to give herself a better life yet now she cannot even enjoy many of its simple joys. Eating popcorn at the movies fills her with guilt. A dinner out with friends will be finished early if she has training tomorrow. She isn’t actually training for anything specific, yet her regime rules her life.

One of my other friends was the ultimate husband. Everything he did was for the benefit of his wife and home life. His reward for a hard days work was going home to her. She was the reason he went to work, she was the reason for everything he did.

One day, my friend was promoted. A worthy promotion as he really was the top performer at work, both in his own right and in the way he got the best out of all the people who reported to him. When he received this promotion, something changed. Quality of life stopped being his priority. Time with his wife stopped being his purpose. Rather, he started validating himself by furthering himself at work, by future promotions and by where he was placed on the corporate ladder.

To my mind, both these friends have lost their way. They have forgotten about the real things in their lives, the important things. They have gotten so caught up in an idea, they’ve lost all balance. They’ve became slaves to it.

With my first friend, she originally wanted to lose some weight and live a healthier, fuller and happier lifestyle. Losing sight of this, she now trains and eats to a regimen that excludes life outside this regimen. My second friend now sees time spent with his wife as a competing interest to time spent at the office, a constraint which gets in the way of his commitment to the job.

In the history of mankind, work for the sake of work was reserved to a societal underclass we call slaves. Other people only used to work to support themselves. Once they had achieved this, they enjoyed their lives with their family and friends. The concept of career is so new in the history of mankind, it can almost be called an aberration. Yet the majority of people we know get sucked into its myth, a myth where work is the end in its own right. As a result, people continue to confuse the means to an end, with the end itself.

Have a look at your own life. This is something I do all the time. Is there anything you seem to be dedicating yourself to, that really should be a means to a higher purpose. Is there anything you working on for the sake of the work, rather than the benefits that work should bring?

If there is, have you become a slave to an idea? Are you toiling for no purpose. Remember you only have one life, so review this work and try to work out what it will bring you in 10 – 20 years? Will you look back on your toil and smile at the benefits it brought you? Or will you look back and see a landscape of opportunities missed?

Typically we become slaves to ideas when we lose sight of the important things in life. We do this when we get so absorbed in the work we are doing, we forget to look at the broader picture. The quickest way to rectify this issue is to take a timeout. Spend a little time away from everything and get your head together again. Think about the things which are and will be really important over the course of your life, not just now. Forget about what everyone else is telling you, look into your heart and find your own perspective. Because once you find that perspective, you will throw the shackles of your self imposed slavery aside and get out of your rut.

If you do this exercise properly, you should end up with a list of things which are benefits of your toil, not part of the work itself. And they should be things that enhance your life. The goals of the company you work for should not be on your list. So a career goal could be early retirement, or an annual holiday to a remote part of the world. A fitness goal could be climbing to base camp Everest. Meeting a project deadline, or doing more repetitions at a higher weight are the type of thing which should NOT be on your list.

Going through this type of process, if done properly, will give you perspective. Once you have it, you will be in control of your life again. And being back in control, you’ll see work or training is there to support a higher purpose. And from here, you’ll have a vantage point from which you can recognise better methods, and oppotunities to find a better path to your goals. You won’t be stuck, trapped as a slave to your ideas.

I have a friend who has recently been bitten by the “fitness bug”. Its quite strange. She is not actually training for anything, yet trains hours every day. She pays $40 an hour, (which apparently is cheap) three times a week to a personal trainer. He now gets her to fill in a “food diary” so he can check what she eats everyday. She has stopped enjoying dinners out, popcorn at the movies and any social event which interferes with her training schedule or dietry regime.

I have another friend who used to be 100% dedicated to his wife. Everything he did was about their quality of life and the time they spent together.

Both of these friends of mine have become slaves in today’s world. They have become slaves because they have lost sight of the things they were working for. Having lost sight of these things, work is the only thing that is left for them. Work has become their lives. With my first friend, she originally wanted to lose some weight and live a healthier, fuller and happier lifestyle. Losing sight of this, she now trains and eats to a regimen that excludes life outside this regimen. My second friend now sees time spent with his wife as a competing interest to time spent at the office, a constraint which gets in the way of his commitment to the “job”.

200 years ago, people did not do this. Life was about living, life was about family and work was about putting food on the table. The only people for whom work was the end, rather than the means, were slaves. And slavery has been outlawed. Yet today, people constantly get the means confused with the end, and then wonder why at retirement there is nothing else in their lives.

Ask yourself if there is work in your life, which serves no purpose. It could be an exercise regime, a career, or even your perception on keeping your home overly clean. If there is, you have possibly enslaved yourself to an idea. If this is the case, ask yourself what this work will bring you in 20 or 30 years time. Happiness? Family? Friends? Or 20 – 30 years of opportunity lost, which could have been spent with family, friends and happiness.

If you have become a slave to something, its probably because you have lost sight of the important things in your life. So take a weekend off whatever you are working on, and spend it reviewing what is important to you. While doing this, make sure you separate out the things that are important to your boss, or trainer, as their goals are not yours. They have vested interests in manipulating your goals to be in line with theirs.

You’ll know you have done this well when the things that are important to you, are things that your work can “buy”, not measurement of your work. For example, a career oriented goal should not be “…completing the project on time and under budget”, it should be “…affording that holiday in Tahiti”. And a fitness goal should not be “…losing 20kg and improving my resting pulse to 68 beats per minute”, it should be “…being competitive while playing tennis with a bunch of friends, which we will follow up with a guilt free meal and a couple of drinks”.

Once you get this right, you will have something we call perspective. You will be living your own life again. This will give you the ability to relegate work into a supporting role in your life, rather than the lead role. And from your position of vision, you will be able to see that there are better ways to achieve your life goals, rather than through your slavery of choice.

For example, you will see that your career, while supposedly looking after the financial needs of your life, only achieves 1 small part of this, cashflow. It does not help you manage your debt, its does not provide you with strategies to increase your cashflow during the times you need more money, and it does help you invest for your future. In return, it expects all your time so you will find it hard to manage these things yourself. Thats the idea of slavery you see, to trap you so you cannot escape.

But now you have spent your weekend away. You have your perspective and you are focused on your life again. This is great, it means you can make plans and put your energy and attention into building the dreams that are important to you. If you are looking for some ideas, visit us at TheOnlyWay.com.au, we have a couple of interesting business and investing strategies which you may find useful.

A “career”, as we know it today, typically describes the main stream of remunerative work we do through the course of your life. Building a career then, is going through a process of improvement to ensure you progress as far as you can, with your career being the “end” in its own right. Making a living on the other hand, seems more “life” focused. It seems to refer to making money so you can live. The activity may still be the same, but the focus is different. When you make a living, life is away from the office. When you build a career, life is the office.

Interesting thoughts, we wrote an article about it, you can read it all here:

The definition of the word “career” today typically relates to the main stream of remunerative work we do through the course of our lives. If you think about the concept of career in terms of the history of mankind, its a strange little thing that has only been around for a couple of hundred years. It is an aberration. It only arrived with the organisation of large corporations and, with the continual development of telecommunications and resulting decentralisation of workforces, who know how long it will continue to exist. If you are honest with yourself, you will see that all “career” ultimately describes is our progression through a list of skills and opportunities someone else has made available to us, where someone else is telling us where we fit in, and what our value is.

I always thought it interesting that “care” was in the word career. Its as if these corporations have agreed to take care of us during our working life. They have agreed to baby sit us, so we do not make decisions, progress in our own time or decide our own value. Apparently we cannot be trusted with our own development and cannot be trusted to measure our own worth. This is why we need our “carers” to map our way and only let us proceed when they believe we are worthwhile (and when they can afford it, and only if they can find another person to fill our current role)

No wonder so many people are dissatisfied with their jobs. Its all work, its all someone elses decisions, its all for someone elses goals, and its all building someone elses life. Yet so many people talk about “career” as if its the most important thing in their life. I know as a child, when my parents went out for dinner, being baby sat definately was not the highlight of my week. Living my life through paying with my brothers and friends was. Why do we change as adults? Why do we start measuring our success and life through someone elses eyes? Why do we let them direct our paths? Why have careers become so important?

“Making a living”, now thats more talking my laguage. I’m not sure if you noticed, but the term is simply about life. And thats what careerists often forget I think. We are on this earth to live. Not to be babysat. We are here to learn our own lessons, in our own time. We are here to experience, grow and love. We are here to find and define our own value, not have someone do it for us. That is what making a living is about, its making life.

And that is the thing that I really love about internet marketing. Sure, you need to learn some skills for writing successful webpages, optimising on the search engines and the like, but they are just technical skills which anyone can learn. We have listed and explained all these skills here for free: Internet Marketing Techniques The main thing I love about making a living on the internet though, is that the only type of business that works on the internet, are businesses about things you are passionate about. The reason is simple. Every topic in the world carries to some degree, its own language. It is only when you are passionate about a topic that you will understand this language. It is only when you know this language that you will be able to reach the people who share your passion and sell them the real value you have to offer. This, for better or worse, is the internet way.

This is the very thing which makes this industry beautiful. To be successful, you have to get involved in something you love. That is why I do not see myself as having a career. I am making a living. Everything I do is about a topic I am passionate about, and that includes writing this article. I never have sluggish mornings anymore. I am bursting at the seams to get out of bed every single day to continue with my “living”. There are no more disappointing opportunities missed, promotions which passed me by, or board room poilitics leaving me out in the cold. I measure my value by the internet creations I launch, the bank balance they generate, the lifestyle this provides for and the time I am allowed to enjoy it.

That is the beauty of internet marketing. Thats why I’ll never do anything else

I live on Australia’s Gold Coast, in a little suburb called Mermaid Beach. Its a lovely, sunny place to live, almost like a large country town. Not too big that you get caught up in the crazy pace of big city life and forget to take in all the blessings that come to you every day. Not too small that you miss out on the cosmopolitan conveniences and luxuries that come with population centres.

We now have a baby on the way. A surprise that has brought us closer together. And as I was sitting here, watching my pregnant partner having a nap on the couch, I was suddenly overcome by an immense feeling of gratitude, that I am lucky enough to live the life I have built around me. I don’t have to go to the office or a work site anymore, trading my days away to put food on the table, I let my internet businesses like Gold Coast Surfboards do that for me. Instead I get up when my body tells me its time, and go for a surf in the ocean, which is a 2 minute walk from my front door.

Then, when I’ve had enough (usually when my arms can take no more paddling) I’ll go and buy a latte from the cafe up the road, come home and spend an hour or two on my websites, writing articles like this one, to make the websites work a little better each day. This guarantees that tomorrow I still won’t have to go to the office. Then around lunch time, the postman will ride by. This always fills me with excitement as he often delivers the cheques that make the website business so rewarding. I really am lucky.

And I know why I am lucky too. Its because I learned the skills required to sell products and services on the internet. Goodness knows I can’t sell in the physical world, I don’t have thick enough skin for the constant rejection. But I can sell on the internet. This is because I learned the internet marketing skills and techniques that turn websites into cashflow machines. I learnt from the masters of the day, and continue to upgrade my skills whenever I can. There is no room for complacency in internet marketing! And now there is always enough money to put food on the table, whether I work, surf or write articles. And usually a bit extra too, which we will definately need in a few months, for essentials like nappies and baby food

So no, I just can’t understand why people complain about the jobs that they hate, yet do nothing to change their skill sets, or enhance their opportunities to find different work or turn the things they love into a career, or bring their art into their working lives. All it takes is a little deliberate planning a decent amount of commitment, and a little bit of hard work to see it through. Ahh, thats it, work. I do see now. Its like how Thomas Edison said it.

“Most people miss opportunities because its dressed in overalls and looks like work”

Well, if you are not one of those people, and grasp opportunities when they can have a positive influence on your future, there are plenty of free business and investment strategies introduced at TheOnlyWay.com.au that you really should review. They certainly changed my life!
