A Legitimate Internet Business

The internet is a dangerous place if you are looking for a legitimate business idea. There are so many scams out there. So many people who just want to fleece you of your hard earned cash. So if you are thinking of heading down this track, I want you to remember 1 thing. To create a successful business on the internet, all you need to do is use the internet as a medium to sell something of value, to someone who wants it. The one thing all the scams do not have, is a product which adds value to the purchaser. So if someone is selling you an internet business idea and there is no value proposition, walk away from it.

 

 

That brings us to your first hurdle. What do you sell. You basically have 2 options here. You can sell your own products, or you can sell someone elses products (On the internet you do this by promoting affiliate programs). There are advantages and disadvantages to both options. Some of these include:

  • If you sell your own product, you have to handle stock and deal with customers, whereas someone else does that when you sell someone else's product.
  • If you sell your own product, you own the client which gives you the opportunity to make more money, by on-selling to this client. You don't get this opportunity when you promote other people's products.
  • You need a product concept before you can sell it. Whereas you only need a marketing idea to sell someone elses product.
  • If you sell your own product, you keep all the profits. If you sell someone elses, you have to share the profits.

There is no right or wrong answer here, they both can work, independantly, or when used together. Internet based businesses are more to be about marketing than the product. So whether you have your own product or someone elses, what you really need to focus on is a selling concept. Its as simple as that.

How To Start Your Own Internet Business

The following method is not the only way to start an internet business. It may not even be the best way. It worked for me though, so I can arbitrarily tell you it works. If you are interested in starting your own web based business, here is what I suggest you do:

1. Learn the Technicalities of the Internet

To run an internet business, there are a bunch of infrastructural items you must have, and a bunch which may not be absolutely necessary but really help. Examples of these infrastructural items non-exhaustively include:

  • Web Hosting
  • Auto Responder Email Databases
  • Link Tracking
  • Website Development Tools
  • Training on How To Build a Website
  • Honest, Business Focused Reviews of Your Concepts

At the very least, you'll either need to learn how to develop a website, or outsource your web development. I suggest at least learn the basics yourself, it just means you can do all those hundreds of little fine tuning jobs yourself, without losing days and weeks to your contractors.

 

2. Learn How To Sell On Google

Google is everywhere. You must learn how to use google to promote your website. If you don't, you will miss up to 80% of your potential market.
